University engagement with the Global South is long-standing. At many Canadian universities, international linkages began with development projects in the South. Today, with the internationalization of higher education, this engagement has extended beyond development cooperation and the enrolment of international students to a much wider range of activities. These include research collaboration, student mobility, and the integration of international and intercultural perspectives into the teaching, learning and service functions of the university.

First of all, we want to say how very encouraged we have been by the response to the first issue of e-MAGINED, and to thank readers for their very helpful comments. We have had a few technical challenges along the way to publishing this second edition -- fortunately most of these have now been solved. A listserv has now been created, and directions for subscribing may be found under “About e-MAGINED.” difficulty understanding the way the system works.

Welcome to e-MAGINED - the Canadian e-Magazine of International Education.

Internationalization has become an important focus of activity for Canadian higher education — and the engagement goes well beyond individual universities and colleges. The world of internationalization in Canada is, in some ways, a crowded one. It involves the representative organizations of the educational institutions — the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) — and organizations such as the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and the Canadian Education Centre Network (CECN). It includes both our provincial and our federal governments — and, as in the case of Ottawa, the involvement of multiple ministries. It involves NGOs such as World University Service of Canada (WUSC), and the private sector. There are a surprisingly large number and variety of players.
