Welcome to e-MAGINED - the Canadian e-Magazine of International Education.

Internationalization has become an important focus of activity for Canadian higher education — and the engagement goes well beyond individual universities and colleges. The world of internationalization in Canada is, in some ways, a crowded one. It involves the representative organizations of the educational institutions — the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) — and organizations such as the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and the Canadian Education Centre Network (CECN). It includes both our provincial and our federal governments — and, as in the case of Ottawa, the involvement of multiple ministries. It involves NGOs such as World University Service of Canada (WUSC), and the private sector. There are a surprisingly large number and variety of players.

For all this engagement, energy and activity, we are still without a distinctive Canadian space where all these diverse participants can share an ongoing dialogue, discussion and debate on the practices and policies, obstacles to and opportunities for the internationalization of postsecondary education in our country. The goal of this new electronic magazine, e-MAGINED, is to provide just such a space.

e-MAGINED will be published three times per year and will be available free of charge. Our goal is for each issue to contain at least one article in each of the following five categories:

* Reflections on the experiential aspects of internationalization.

* Discussions of the development, implementation and challenges of internationalization policy at the institutional or governmental level.

* Sharing of new and innovative practices.

* Articles on internationalization from people at institutions in other countries that have partners in Canada.

* Broad critical reflections on internationalization.

This magazine invites contributions from anyone involved or interested in international education, including professionals in the field, people in all levels of government, NGOs and the private sector, and students. Articles should be between 1,500 and 2,000 words, and may be written in either official language. Photographs or other visual materials are also welcome. The deadline for the next issue is March 15, 2008. Submissions or questions (noting e-MAGINED in the subject line) should be sent to:
